| IIT - JEE
What is IIT JEE ?
The IIT-JEE is jointly conducted
by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) every year for
admission to B.Tech, B.Pharm, Integrated M.Sc and M.Tech courses
in IITs. The Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad and the Institute
of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, also admit
students from the JEE merit list for their undergraduate programmes.
Eligibility
- The general category candidates
must secure a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in their Qualifying
Examination . SC, ST and PD (Persons with Disabilities) categories
must secure a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. In the case
of letter grades where percentage of marks are not available
the candidates should obtain a certificate from the Board
specifying equivalent marks for the grade and submit it during
the counselling.
- With effect from 2006 a candidate
can make only two attempts for IIT-JEE. i.e only in the year
in which he/she passes the Qualifying Examination and/or in
the following year.
- Candidates who get admission
in any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad through
JEE-2006 will not be allowed to appear in JEE in future.(Candidates
who have passed their Qualifying Examination in 2005 or before,
will be allowed to appear in JEE 2006 as a last chance irrespective
of the marks scored in the Qualifying Examination.But they
should satisfy the age limit criteria. This exception is also
applicable to those candidates who are now registered in any
of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi and ISM, Dhanbad)
Qualifying Examination
- A list of qualifying examinations
is given below:
- The final examination in the
10+2 pattern of any recognised Central / State Board of Secondary
Examination, including the CBSE and ICSE, New Delhi .
- Intermediate Science or the
two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognised
Board / University.
- First year examination of
a degree course of any recognised Indian University / Institute
following a Higher Secondary Examination in the 10+1 system.
- Final examination of the two-year
course of the Joint Services Wing, National Defence Academy
.
- General Certificate of Education
(GCE) Examination ( London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka ) at the
Advanced [A] level.
- High School Certificate Examination
of the University of Cambridge .
- Any Public School / Board
/ University Examination in India or in foreign countries
recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
as equivalent to the 10+2 system.
- HSC Vocational Examination.
- The Senior Secondary School
Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum
of 5 subjects.
- Three or four-year diploma
recognised by the AICTE or a state board of technical education.
Exam pattern
This examination will consist
of three separate papers in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry
each of two hours duration. The Questions will be of objective
type which have to be answered on the specially designed machine
gradable sheet using a HB Pencil only. Incorrect answers will
be awarded negative marks.
