NAUTICAL SCIENCE

Introduction

The focus of Nautical Science is the marine transportation industry. Students in this programme are trained to become ships' officers and have the opportunity to pursue a career which can take them from the most junior ranks to that of captain in command at sea. The choice of employers and ship types available to trainee cadets today range from the largest passenger cruise ships out to the smallest coaster plying boats.
Subsequent sea experience further broadens the opportunities for ships' officers who may be interested in shore-based positions. These may include positions as harbour and coastal pilots, in shipping companies, as educators in nautical institutions, and as marine consultants to name only a few.

Eligibility

Minimum eligibility for the Undergraduate course in this field is a pass in 10+2/equivalent examinations with an eyesight of 6/6 and no color blindness.

JobProspects

  The nautical science graduates go in as deck cadets. For promotion the cadets while sailing can prepare for the exams conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping(DGS). On the ship the cadets are to work in either of the departments like the deck department,the engine department or the service department
