What is CSIR-UCG?
The Council of Scientific and
Industrial Research (CSIR) holds national level joint CSIR-UGC
Examination (NET) normally twice every year. This examination
is to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the
award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and for appointment
as Lecturers in Science and Arts subjects. State Level Eligibility
Tests (SLET) are conducted by the respective states as accredited
by the UGC for the same purpose. The syllabus is more or less
the same for NET and SLET
Eligibility
i) Candidates who have scored
at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) in the Master's Degree
examination in the following or related subjects are eligible
to appear in the joint CSIR-UGC Test (NET): Chemical Sciences;
Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean & Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences;
Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences.
ii) A candidate who is appearing
/ has appeared in the final year of MSc or an equivalent examination
may also apply.
iii) For JRF, the minimum age
requirement is 19 years as on July 1st / December 1st of the
year of this examination, the upper age limit is 28 years
and the same is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST/OBC, physically
handicapped and female applicants.
iv) For Lectureship (Science),
the minimum age is 19 years as on July 1st / December 1st
of the year of this examination. No upper age limit is specified
in this category.
Exam pattern
The test will consist of three
papers comprising two separate sessions on the same day.
